Coconut oil is a superfood with many beneficial properties, but it can also be used for beauty. In our interview with model Anne-Sophie Monrad, she recommended putting little bit of the stuff on your cheeks “to add a hint of shine and scent.” Here are some other awesome ways to use it as a natural beauty product.

1. To Give Your Hair Some Shine

Indian women regularly apply coconut oil to their hair and scalp in order to keep it looking healthy and shiny. Section your hair off bit by bit to gently massage the oil into your head and then run it through your hair from your roots to your tips. Leave the oil in for at least an hour, then wash off with shampoo, followed by conditioner. Your hair will feel rejuvenated and revived!

2. As A Natural Makeup Remover

Anyone can use coconut oil to remove makeup, but it is especially good if you have sensitive skin and commercial products tend to sting or irritate you. We recommend simply rubbing some coconut oil between your fingers and applying it to your dry skin and then washing it off with water. Alternatively, you can also use a washcloth to wipe it off, like in the video below:

3. In the bath

Next time you prepare a bath, add a couple of tablespoons of coconut oil to the water along with your usual bath salts. The oil is antibacterial, antifungal, will help moisturise your skin and will give you a sweet scent afterwards. What more could you want?

4. Coconut Oil Scrub

If you’re in a rush, another way to use coconut oil for your skin is to make a quick and easy coconut oil sugar scrub to use in the shower. Mix around 1/2 cup of softened coconut oil with 1/4 cup sugar (more, if you like a coarser texture), and rub it onto your wet skin. The sugar will exfoliate your skin, removing dirt and dead cells, while the coconut oil will moisturise. Then simply rinse off and go!

5. For Your Smile

In India, coconut oil pulling is used to promote dental health. After you brush your teeth in the morning, swish one tablespoon of coconut oil around in your mouth for about 10 minutes without swallowing. Then spit it out and rinse your mouth with salty water. In Ayurvedic Medicine, this technique is used to detoxify your mouth and improve the health of your teeth and gums so you can be confident with your smile.

Have we convinced you that coconut oil an awesome natural beauty product? We hope you’ll try out and enjoy some of our tips!
