The most simple Guide to the 10-Step Korean Skincare Regime

If you thought a skincare routine consisted of only cleansing, toning and moisturizing, think again!

Everyone knows that Korea leads the way when it comes to skincare. But few people know exactly what a Korean skincare regime looks like. It consists of 10 essential steps, and it’s actually not as long and complicated as it sounds. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of the routine.

Step 1: Oil Cleanse

Start by washing your face with some oil, this will remove any make-up, dirt, and moisturizer on the surface of your skin. For this step, you can buy a cleansing oil product, or simply dab some coconut oil on your face and wipe with a cotton pad.

Step 2: Water Wash

A water wash will clean away any remaining dirt, oil from step 1 and sweat.  Again, you can buy a gentle water cleanser or simply use water and a face cloth.

Step 3: Toner

Using a toner helps balance your skin’s pH levels and prepares your skin for the next products you apply. Korean toners tend to be soothing and hydrating rather than harsh and acidic.

Step 4: Essence

Essence will further help prepare your skin by hydrating it even more. It is something between a toner and a serum and helps keep your skin plump and fresh.

Step 5: Ampoule

An ampoule is like a super-charged serum. It contains many active ingredients to nourish and repair your skin.

Step 6: Serum

Now apply a serum or boosters specifically targeted at your skin type, or to tackle any skin issues such as acne, large pores or wrinkles.

Step 7: Sheet Masks

Sheet masks are usually not applied every day, but rather two or three times a week. They come in different materials and contain different active ingredients that will nourish and improve your skin in different ways.

Step 8: Eye cream

The skin around your eyes is thin and delicate, so gently dab some eye cream onto this area to provide the area with extra protection.

Step 9: Moisturiser

Now it’s time for a rich, creamy moisturiser to protect, nourish and hydrate your skin. Pat this onto your skin every night and day.

Step 10: SPF

Sun can be very damaging to your skin, so before you step outside for the day make sure you use some sun protection. Applying it last ensures that it shields your skin from harmful UV rays, while locking in the moisturising effects of the previous layers of skin care.

And that’s all! Enjoy taking some inspiration from the Korean beauty regime and incorporating it into your daily routine.
